Marriage

Marriage can be a funny thing. We have been married for 2 and a half years and we are no good at it. I mean we still fight and get mad at each other all the time. But the thing about all that is that we still love each other through it all. Dr. Gottman, a foremost researcher of marriage, said that it isn't a matter of how much or how little a couple fights but it is how they make up that really makes the difference of whether or not they stay together. According to that theory I am feeling pretty good about us. We still fight but we also are really good at making up.
This quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley really helps put in perspective what marriage really means -
"I have long felt that happiness in marriage is not so much a matter of romance as it is an anxious concern for the comfort and well-being of one’s companion. That involves a willingness to overlook weaknesses and mistakes.”
We all come with mistakes and weaknesses in our lives. Marriage doesn't fix them. The thing that we need to be willing to do is love the person that you have chosen to be with. It is like this old saying says, Choose your love and love your choice. Once you are married it is your duty and your promise to always love and take care of that person. You made the choice to be with them forever because you love them. Remember that love and look at them through those eyes.

Blessed

I feel so blessed lately. And you know sometimes when you don't really know why you deserved any of it but it still came... and maybe is still coming. That is how I feel.

I am so grateful for all my blessings but lately this one has come to the front of my mind.
I am grateful for this man!

I am so grateful that I get to spend the rest of forever with him. I know that my last few posts (spanning over the last 6 months) have been about how much I love him.. mushy mushy... But he has been such a huge blessing to me.
I got really sick last week and I didn't even want to get out of bed. He ran to the store and bought me power-aid and crackers and soup and took care of me. I couldn't have asked for a kinder man. He is so hard working and willing to do what it takes to provide for our family.  I am just so grateful to call him mine.

Our First Road Trip

We don't go many places that are far away from home. The furthest we go is an hour and a half to my brother and sister-in-law's house in Pocatello. But this summer we were able to go to Twin Falls, a whole three hours away. It was an adventure for us. We were there for some good friends' wedding. We even got a hotel room and everything. Aren't we so grown up?!

Driving was fun. We talked a lot and I asked a lot of questions. I get really curious on road trips. I'm glad Landon wasn't annoyed at me.

We stayed in a hotel Friday night. We felt so adult.(I mean being married defiantly isn't as adult as getting your own hotel room... uh come on... really?)\
The next morning we got up and got ready and went to the Twin Falls temple. It was such a wonderful sealing.

After the temple we had some time to kill so we drove around Twin and found an Arctic Circle to get some ice cream. Then we drove around some more.

I just have to say I love my husband! He is so fine! Mmmmmm Mmmmm Mmmm!

The lunch-in was held at this beautiful event center right on the rim of the canyon, as you can tell. It was a beautiful day.

Next on our adventure was finding Hagerman, Id. Hagerman is about 45 min northwest of Twin Falls. We found it and had a great time hanging out and helping clean up the reception.

On our way out, the next morning, we decided to find where Shoshone Falls was. It took us a while to find it becasue of some road construction. It was worth the search it took to get there.

Our first road trip was a success! Yeah!

A Whole Two Years!

In July we celebrated out 2 year anniversary. TWO YEARS! I can't believe it. I still sometimes catch myself thinking, "Is this real? I am married." A lot can happen in two years. We have many many jobs. Gone to school and stopped going to school and then went back to school. We moved once. We have been in 3 different wards. 1 sibling got married and one nephew was born. And even after all that has happened surprisingly we are still in love. Well probably even more in love.
We were going go go to Island Park to celebrate for the weekend, but we weren't able to do that so we just camped in our living room.

It really was a blast. We watched movies and ate food. Then we did a little shopping in Idaho Falls on Saturday and just had the best time.

Landon surprised me throughout the day with these little sayings and treats. It was so thoughtful and sweet.
It was a great anniversary and I am excited for the next 50 to come.

I woudn't change a thing

This weekend we were able to attend the wedding of some very good friends of ours and it has made me think about the night Landon and I got engaged 2 years ago and the short year and a half that we have been married.

I have never believed that there is one specific person out there for everyone, like sole mates. I believe that in all reality, I could have married a number of people and been very happy. But what I do know is that Landon and I fit so perfectly. We get each other. One thing that I loved about Landon's and my relationship from the beginning was that we just understood each other. We didn't have to try and fit into the other person's world, we just belonged there.

We have the same dreams for our future and we support the dreams that the other person has. Our life is definitely not easy. We have the same problems and trials as any one rise up as any college couple. We are the epitome of the poor college students. Despite the fact that we don't have much in the way of material things, we have more than enough love and support to go around. That sounded so cheesy when I typed that but I can't think of another way to say it. Our love is enough. I love Landon more now than I could comprehend when we got engaged, or even when we got married. We have learned so many things and grown in multiple ways and all while being there for each other. Marriage has been the most rewarding and most difficult thing that I have have even done. I wouldn't change my life for anything.

Prayer Time

Sometimes we forget our couple prayer until after we are in bed.
This was the case last night.

We were laying in bed almost asleep when I remembered to pray.
Landon was practically asleep and it was his turn to pray.

So we kneel down and Landon starts to pray.

".... please bless the wildlife..."

After we ended the prayer he said, "I'm pretty sure I just blessed the wildlife."

Yep Landon you did!

I laughed for a good minuet..... He makes my life so good!

Date Night?

It's been a while... I know.

So tonight my love and I kinda had a date night.

Went out to Craigo's for pizza.

Went to K-Mart!

Bought a shredder.

Came home and proceeded to shred.... and searched the house for more paper to shred... and then shredded some more.

Happy Wednesday!

Married life... the Pettingill way!

I  have so many stories for you! Married life is the best! I love it! Even when Landon drives me crazy and makes me mad. Being drivin crazy by my husband is way better than being drivin crazy by a boyfriend!

ps- I have lost my camera! I know I have searched for it everywhere. So sorry no pictures of our beautiful apartment.

#1 I'm looking for a job... and I dislike it very much but today believe it or not I almost liked it. And thanks to my patient husband for supporting me in everything that I do. He is amazing and has helped me so much in building my confidence and putting myself out there.

#2 I locked myself in my house! Last friday I was cleaning up the kitchen and our garbage smelt so bad.... EWWWW it was terrible so it had to go! I went to the front door which was locked because I hate being home alone.  Going to open the door and nothing. So I unlocked it and went to push down the handle and it stuck. I pulled it up and... nothing. The door would not open. And being as smart as I am I got my husbands screwdriver and unscrewed the door nob. Now I had one half of the door nob inside, one half outside and the middle is stuck like nobody's business. I'm totally locked in my house. I worked and pulled and rammed the screwdriver in the stuck part but nothing was working. My brother Caleb was on his way to come hang out with Landon and I. So he came right in on the middle of me pulling at this stupid door nob. Caleb manages to brake a piece of it and he can get in and I can get out! YEAH! I called the after hours fix-it guy, he came, replaced the dumb piece and we were free!

#3 I locked Landon and I out of our car and apartment! On Monday Landon and I were out in Rexburg, going to the bank and planning on going to a couple of stores when I decided to do something stupid. I was filling up the car with gas, washing the windows and such. Landon was inside of the gas station. He came out to get in the car and the doors were locked. LOCKED!! Why? I don't know.

L: Do you have the keys?
K: No, don't you?
L: No Kendra I don't have the keys?
K: This better not be a joke. Give me the keys!
L: Kendra I don't have the keys.

So come to find out I had stopped the car pulled the keys out and put them in my purse. Left the purse in the car and locked the doors. Why? I don't know.

Landon and I then walked home- a walk that took probably a good 20 maybe 30 min- knocked on our managers door. Got a key. Opened our apartment got the spare (so lucky we had one) and drove Landon's car to get mine! YEAH!

So there are a few of our adventures! Once I find my camera I'll for sure put up pictures of our lovely apartment!

I'm getting Married..... IN 10 DAYS!!

I LOVE LANDON PETTINGILL!!

Anyway! I'm so excited I will be married in less than two weeks! Is that crazy or what?!?
Yesterday was a busy day. I went to the dentist and got my teeth cleaned. Then Landon and I got our marriage licence! It was crazy! We are really getting married! Then I went with my mom to Rexburg to pick up my wedding dress! Oh my goodness is it pretty!
We drove home and I got ready to have my bridal pictures taken! That was so much fun! Jill, my photographer is great. We started at Heise Hot Springs and took pictures by the river. After that we were driving to our next location and we decided to stop and take some fun pictures at the railroad tracks. Then we headed to my neighbors house where our reception will be held. Wow I cannot wait to see the pictures! Jill did a fantastic job! It was so much fun! After that we came home and got in crafting mode. We made centerpieces, decorated the candy jars and I made my candy flags! They look fantastic!

Everything is coming together and I am so excited.
I love my family and I am so grateful for their help. I am just hoping that everything turns out the way I have dreamed that it would!

Hopefully I will also start blogging more regularly. Sorry for quick lame updates! I'm getting better I promise!

Wedding... wedding... wedding

I bet you can't guess what I am going to write about?!? Wedding... how did you know?
So tomorrow I am going to go check out a couple of dress places in Rexburg with my mom and sisters! I'm pretty excited! I also made an appointment at Gowns by Pamela for Monday. Gowns by Pamela is a wedding dress shop where you can rent your wedding dress and it is also custom to you. And believe it or not my mother rented her wedding gown from gowns by pamela 22 years ago?! Crazy I know.
I am really excited about all this wedding stuff. Yesterday Landon, my mom and I went over to our neighbors house where we are holding the reception to check it out and get some ideas for planning. It is going to be so beautiful. I will just be glad when there is no snow and it is semi green outside.
Also to all my friends who are getting married this summer too, CONGRATULATIONS!
Nikki, Cydnee and Ashley! I'm so happy for you guys!

100 Days!!

So sadly enough I am already counting down the days until Landon and I get married! 100 and counting! Wow... so I have only been engaged for 14 days but July 10th can't get here fast enough!
Also the wedding planning has begun..... and the more I think about it the more overwhelmed I get!
But I am super excited about it all! I love Landon so much! He is my best friend and I cannot wait
to spend forever with him!

So wedding planning.... My colors are blue and green with yellow purple cream and brown (ya I know that seems like a lot of colors but just trust me!) Landon says it sounds fruity! Whatever, it will be fabulous!
This picture says it all for my colors! Isn't it beautiful?!?

Well it is almost the end of Thursday which means that tomorrow is FRIDAY! Yay for the weekend!

The Ring..

So here are the long awaited pictures of the ring!  I love it so much! Landon picked it out! It is absolutely gorgeous. The cut of the diamond is called a trillion cut!

I love love love it!!

This is the engagement and the wedding band together!

I'm so excited! I love my ring and I LOVE LANDON!

3.21.2010

HE LIKED IT SO HE PUT A RING ON IT!

Guess what?
I'M ENGAGED!
Landon asked me to marry him! and I said YES!

Here it goes.....

He had been setting this up for a while. I really wanted to get engaged and had been
feeling like I was in limbo- knowing that he was going to ask me (and then having to plan a wedding) but i still couldn't do much. No one really takes you seriously without a ring! Landon had been telling me for a while that he needed a month. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! A month! That is a long time.

So on Thursday being frustrated and really wanting to go ring shopping (which Landon had previously said he didn't want to go with me) I asked Nikki if she would go with me. So we did. We went to two different places in Rexburg and I just couldn't stand it any longer. I called Landon and I told him how I felt. I was basically acting like a crazy person! He told me that I wasn't. Then he suggested that we go ring shopping together! YES! Finally! So in my mind we would go on Saturday look at rings, he would then have an idea of what I liked and then in maybe 2 weeks he would propose.

Friday morning- I text Landon tell him good morning and ask him how he is doing.
His reply is 'barf' (what the heck) so I asked him if he was grumpy and he said yes. I really wanted to know what was going on and if I could do anything to help him not be so grumpy. He then told me it was ok and he would just have to get over whatever was bothering him. UGH! So again I was frustrated. We didn't see each other all day. I got to work and at my desk there was a letter for me, from Landon! It was the most beautiful letter I have ever read! After that letter I knew he couldn't be so grumpy.

Right at 5 o'clock Landon shows up to pick me up from work. He has already gone and gotten 2 happy meals and we were on our way to Porter Park. (side note I was wearing a skirt because I was planning on going to the temple to do baptisms for the dead that night) Landon parked the car and we both got out. In Rexburg, Idaho the first day of spring was the next day means nothing. It is defiantly still winter and freezing! We get out of the car and start walking. He didn't have a blanket and I was not going to sit on the grass! HELLO I was in a skirt and there was still snow on the ground! He told me we would find a bench to sit on and so we walked through some snow and past some pine trees. Right past the trees was a table set up all decked out- table cloth plates glasses beautiful flowers(my favorite daisies) the whole bit! I was so excited.

I still didn't think that he was going to propose. I just thought what a great romantic date! So we were eating our happy meals and Landon finishes his and says "You know what my favorite part is? The toy." He reaches in his bag and pulls out his toy. I go to do the same and.........
No toy! What a rip off! Landon then asks me if I dropped it on the ground.... Um no I didn't drop it on the ground because I never saw the toy. But Landon starts to look under the table and so then (monkey see monkey do) I start looking too. All of a sudden when I look up he is in front of me on one knee holding the ring! AHHHHH!!! I was in total shock! I can't even remember what I did or said at that point. He then asked "Will you marry me?" and I said YES!!!

BEST DAY EVER!!!

I know that the title is he put a ring on it... well that ring was too big! I get it tomorrow though so pictures will follow! BTW it is gorgeous! He did fantastic! It is more than I could have imagined! I LOVE HIM!
